Tactics Ogre Reborn Steam Deck: I’ve been eager to play Tactics Ogre Reborn ever since it appeared on the PlayStation Store before it was even announced. I never played a lot of Tactics Ogre despite enjoying Final Fantasy Tactics and adoring Square Enix’s RPGs.
I have the PS Vita version of the downloadable PSP version, which I owned, but I never really played it. After hearing about this new edition, I made the decision to keep the PSP version on my PS Vita so I could compare it to the new game, which I’m treating as a brand-new title. Because of Square Enix’s early access programme, I’ve been playing the game on both Steam Decks.
I haven’t played a lot of the original, so I can’t really compare the mechanical modifications and balance tweaks. For this preview, I’m only able to discuss the first chapter of the game, so instead I’ll concentrate on how Tactics Ogre: Reborn plays and looks on the Nintendo Switch (both docked and handheld), Steam Deck, and the PC port.

I can’t yet comment on the plot, but the Japanese voice acting and soundtrack have so far made the biggest impression on me. With the voice acting, this may turn out to be one of my favourite Square Enix soundtracks. To compare both in my playthroughs, I’ve chosen to use Japanese on Steam Deck and English on the Nintendo Switch. I’d think the Japanese voice track is the best so far.
seems more consistently good, but I am enjoying the English voice acting as well. You can swap at anytime, and don’t need to reset to a checkpoint or go back to the titlescreen like with some other games featuring dual audio.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn feels perfect on Nintendo Switch:
Despite the fact that Tactics Ogre: Reborn is an improved version of an older game, I had some reservations about it on the Nintendo Switch. Many developers distribute subpar Switch ports. Fortunately, based on my time with the first chapter of Tactics Ogre: Reborn on Switch, the game runs flawlessly. In both docked and handheld modes, the UI looks beautiful, loads quickly, and has responsive menus. I want to draw attention to the use of HD Rumble in the Switch version. I appreciate it when creators take this into consideration, and Tactics Ogre: Reborn does it beautifully when used with both a docked Pro Controller and in handheld mode.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn should be verified on Steam Deck:
I played Tactics Ogre: Reborn on Steam Deck for 30 minutes, and after that, I was certain that the PC version would be better for playing on the go. It runs wonderfully at 60 frames per second on Steam Deck and uses very little power. The game scope showed me that at 60 frames per second and high brightness, it used roughly 9W of electricity. It also supports touch, so you can use the mouse or tap to advance dialogue as you please. This gives you the best of both worlds. It’s crucial to keep in mind that Tactics Ogre: Reborn already supports Steam Cloud. As opposed to The DioField Chronicle on PC, you don’t have to wait weeks.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn Steam Deck vs Nintendo Switch:
Over the past few months. I’ve loved observing how PC ports perform on Steam Deck. How do they contrast with the original Nintendo Switch versions? Performance, load times, and screen quality. Port quality is the criteria for which I would typically choose one version over the other. On both platforms, Tactics Ogre: Reborn has so far been a wonderful experience. Based on my experience with the first chapter and how fantastic it feels on Switch, especially if you have an OLED model, I’d suggest playing it on Switch rather than Steam Deck. Tactics Ogre: Reborn appears to have received a lot of attention from Square Enix because it currently runs flawlessly on both platforms.
